Nurses are the backbone of our nation’s healthcare system and for the past 19 years have been ranked the most honest and trusted professionals in the workforce (Saad, 2020).
In recent years, and especially since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses have reported high rates of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and emotional exhaustion directly related to factors such as the high stress of their jobs, workplace conditions and potential for disease exposure (Havaei, Ma, Sttaempfli, & MacPhee, 2021).
Additionally, the prevalence of mental health concerns among nursing students in the US has not been thoroughly described due to a lack of research combined with fear of discrimination, stigma, or rejection.
However, a pre-COVID-19, systematic review, and meta-analysis of 27 cross-sectional studies comprising 8,918 students from across the globe published in 2018 found that nursing students have high overall pooled prevalence of depression at 34% (Tung et al.). Nurses and nursing students need care so they can care for us.
This telehealth clinic seeks to purposefully and directly reach out to nurses and nursing students who are looking for an understanding and supportive place to discuss their mental health concerns, discuss treatment options, and receive care. Nurses and nursing students are offered a 60% discount on out-of-pocket costs. The following policies apply:
- Patients must hold an active, nurse-aid, LPN, RN, or APRN license or be registered for and taking classes at a nursing school to receive the discount.
- Dual relationships will be avoided. Meaning, for instance, if the patient is a current student of the provider, they will be referred to another provider for care.
- Patients are responsible for any required reporting to the insurer for deductibles or co-pays.
